H.E. Dr. Ali Al Shidhani:

“Expanding New Markets and Investment Opportunities for Omani Tech Startups”

The Web Summit 2025 opened today in Doha, running from February 23 to 26, with the participation of over 400 investors and 1,000 tech startups. Oman is actively participating in this global event with the presence of 24 Omani tech startups specializing in information technology, supported by the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology. The ministry aims to facilitate the expansion of Omani tech startups into regional and international markets, introduce their digital products and services, and enhance opportunities for building business relationships and partnerships.

Omani Technical Presence

H.E. Dr. Ali bin Amur Al Shidhani, Undersecretary for Communications and Information Technology at the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, highlighted that Web Summit 2025 in Doha has become one of the leading international platforms in the ICT sector. He emphasized that Oman’s participation aims to strengthen its digital presence and enable Omani tech startups to access global markets.

“The ministry is keen to support the participation of these emerging and developing tech companies to showcase Oman’s advanced technological capabilities, particularly those developed by Omani youth. This exposure allows Omani entrepreneurs to gain insights into global technology trends, understand international market demands for digital services, products, and solutions, and ultimately improve their own offerings. Additionally, it paves the way for successful business relationships and partnerships with leading regional and international tech companies.

Attracting Digital Investments

H.E. Dr. Al Shidhani added, “Oman’s participation in key tech events plays a crucial role in positioning the country as a regional hub for digital innovation and a destination for developing technology-driven projects. We are particularly focused on attracting digital investments in sectors such as semiconductors, data centers, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. This is why we are participating under the theme ‘Connecting the World,’ which reflects the ministry’s strategic direction to solidify Oman’s role as a prime destination for digital investments. This aligns with the objectives of the National Digital Economy Program, which seeks to enhance economic diversification and increase the digital economy’s contribution to GDP.”

Focus Areas

Oman’s participation in Web Summit 2025 is centered around key technological domains, including artificial intelligence, edtech, robotics, the Internet of Things, and health tech. The participating Omani startups will present their products and services in these fields to visitors, while also engaging with experts and investors.

Oman’s involvement in Web Summit 2025 stems from its recognition as one of the most significant global tech gatherings. The event is expected to attract more than 15,000 participants from 180 countries, including 400 investors and 1,000 startups.

The theme “Connecting the World” encapsulates Oman’s strategic geographical position along international internet routes and its numerous advantages that position it as a global hub for digital investments. It also underscores the country’s commitment to achieving advanced rankings in digital transformation and innovation.
